About me

I'm a model railroader of 40+ years living in Northwest Ohio. The places that I lived in are Lima, OH (hometown), Defiance, OH, Archbold, OH, and Wauseon, OH (currently reside in). I've been a past member of the Pittsburgh and Ohio Model Railroad Club (Ada Model Rail Association) in Ada Ohio along with two other model railroad clubs over the years. 

My other hobbies outside model railroading include: vintage/modern computing, electronics, and Ham radio - General Class License. I do have other hobbies beyond this motioned, but I'm trying to work towards the purpose of this page.

Purpose

This page will be about mostly model railroading. I'm an HO scale modeler at first, but I cannot always ignore any other scales or gauges. Especially since I do have O gauge and S gauge along with N scale. My view of conveying is from the viewpoint knowledge from the perspective of Fred Rodgers aka "Mister Rodger's Neighborhood". Even if the content that I present isn't from my own, I would like you to take inspiration from it. My purpose is to inspire your creativity and knowledge. Along with knowledge about model railroading, I have railfan experience. So, expect sometime along the model railroading post, information about actual railroad experiences or information.


Glossary of Terms Used   

Elmer's Helper 

What is an Elmer's Helper? The term is borrowed from Ham Radio. As a Ham Radio Operator, it refers to the term of a person who is knowledgeable about the hobby of Ham Radio. I thought this would be a good term to borrow for model railroading.

The Idea After watching a recent video from the Thunder Mesa Studio on You Tube, I liked how how he kitbashed a station for his Barlow Pass HOn3 layout. David Meek took a Hydrocal kit and added a kitbashed second story addition to the his Barlow Pass station. It was a great idea on taking an ordinary station and made it an unique structure. The Video Conclusion  Always Keep your eye out for new techniques. Even though I'm not a narrow gauge modeler, some of the techniques can advance your model railroad skills. Always keep your eye open for new ideas. HO scale Elmer's Helper - Passenger Car Lighting

I figured this would be a great term to borrow.     The Idea Do you want to add lighting to your HO scale passenger cars? Dave over at Scott Rails shows how to do it for your passenger cars.
